Daman Cantrell District Judge

Biography

Judge Daman Cantrell, the son of a welder and a homemaker, was the first college graduate in his family. He is a lifetime Oklahoman, who graduated on full scholarship for the debate team from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1982, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, and from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1985. Judge Cantrell began practice as an Assistant Oklahoma Attorney General, under Oklahoma Attorney General Michael C. Turpen and Robert H. Henry. He served as a law clerk in the United States District Court of the Western District of Oklahoma, for the Honorable Doyle W. Argo, Federal Magistrate Judge, and as a public defender in both Oklahoma and Tulsa counties, during which time he was lead counsel in over 60 felony jury trials.

Daman Cantrell family In 1999, Judge Cantrell was appointed Special Judge for Tulsa County, and served as a Tulsa County Special Judge until his election as District Judge in 2006.

Judge Cantrell received the President's Award from the Tulsa County Bar Association in both 2007 and 2009 for his work with the Tulsa County's Lakeside Group Home in the Oklahoma Bar Association's high school mock trial competitions.

In 2005, Judge Cantrell was awarded the prestigious Alma Wilson award by the Oklahoma Bar Association for his effectiveness on his docket and for his volunteer work with troubled youth in Tulsa County.

Judge Cantrell is active in his community outside the legal profession. Recently he graduated from the Owasso Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Owasso program, an eight month program designed for participants to become involved with leaders in city government, private business and educational entities in Owasso and neighboring communities. He is a member of the Owasso Rotary Club and enjoys participating in that club's Flag Program, which places over 500 American Flags around the community on patriotic holidays. He and his family are members of First Christian Church of Owasso. He and his wife are active officers in the Owasso Basketball Booster Club.

Judge Cantrelll's primary off-the bench activities are coaching his daughters' summer basketball and Owasso High School mock trial teams. He and his wife , Brita, a Tulsa lawyer, also enjoy the girls' participation in the Pride of Owasso Marching Band and the Lady Rams soccer and basketball teams. The judge also enjoys reading history, running, and watching sports of all kinds. They have made Tulsa County their home for the past 16 years.
